William Henry Meung - 'the silhouettes of trees and explosions' review

You have artists and then you have artists. William Henry Meung is an artist. A prolific recording artist with a backcatalogue of works on a raft of thee coolest cassette LP and cd labels nationally and internationally.  In this instance it's 'chemical imbalance' records..Whats going on here?  What am I doing? Rationating opinion yet again? Why yes, lets put this cassette on. First track - 'Jasper Bookends' - the spirit of early Otago peninsula tape culture, lilting guitar lines, ponderous, not in the least onerous. Next track ' macrocarpas' , darker now, the ruffle and squelch of wah-wah, finger pickings, culminating in a type of descending form. 'Gusten' is where the fun really begins as the feedback wails all sick and flammable, bleeds over dark brooding lo-fi line. My sense of balance is eroded here. You are called upon to throw your self away and this next track 'mxcdm +the fair weather friends' bawks forward with synthetic drone , feedback rondo, deep potted grain virus, yeller, the yeller, brainiac, 'too obscure for she' , inny and outy, 'Hand Red' - introduces a type of rhythmic guitar, lower-than-fi, pounce, swoop, jilt, silt, these are dirty windows - perhaps just dusty, in need of dusting, this is nighttime studio music, nightmare music? Guitar music at the very least. a rolling effect here on 'swampy corner'  ,this is, and yes maybe its a freaking cliche but this is some dark stuff from our subject/object. Dark abstract guitar wolfery here on this tape i'd say. Not for the faint hearted. Definately for the speculative. Post xpressway schizoid blues. 'Audio repeats on the flipside' , so its a short outting and can tell your theres so much more from Mr meung : he has releases on MFMP, one on Independant Woman records, and he is caught playing on the upcomnig BILDERS album, no less!

Will review more items for alcohol.

Post script : note that cover. such a piece. such a delicate. such a piece. Such a piece. Some suchness, some Nigel. Give the void a name. Understand the Singleton. Give a name to this creation. one.
